Bittertang’s Petri Dish Bed

For their work on Storefront for Art and Architecture’s 30th Anniversary Show, Bittertang asked us to help create part of a waterbed in the shape of a petri dish. The exhibition was titled “BEING“, and explored the history of Storefront, including ephemera such as the unsuccessful grant applications making up this “waterbed of unfulfilled dreams.” The base of the waterbed was made up of three CNC cut pieces of MDF. The rod-like bacteria shapes were pocketed out of the MDF, and the profile was cut so that the three large shapes fit together like puzzle-pieces to form the circular shape of the petri dish.
